Bio
Eric's musical roots are firmly planted in the sandy soil of eastern
North Carolina.  Born at Ocracoke Island on the outer banks and
mostly raised in the coastal city of Wilmington he has a genetic
connection to the salt air and marshes of the area. Although he worked
fish boats during the summers it was after high school that he first
went deep sea in the US Navy and experienced the sights, sounds,
smell, and social life of foreign ports.
At age 15 he could not afford a guitar and the desire to learn was
strong. A neighbor kid had a guitar that he could not play so he let Eric
borrow it for a month. When all the other fellows were learning
"Under The Boardwalk" he was teaching himself to play "Tom Dooly"
and "MTA."  Musical influences in his life are The Kingston Trio,
Peter Paul and Mary, John Prine, The Limelighters, Woody Guthrie,
Towns VanZant, and a blind street performer in Palataka, Fla.
Although Eric is a master mariner, which pays the bills, he is also a
singer songwriter who attempts to document the working lives of
fishermen, farmers, tug crewmen, and all whose lives may seem
unglamorous. Even in these modern times, civilization rests squarely
on the shoulders of those who toil.  His are love songs for those who
ache, sweat, and long to be with their family.
In the summer of 2003, he was accepted in the Master of Arts in
Liberal Studies program at the University of North Carolina at
Wilmington.

Eric performed 65 shows in 2005, 66 shows in 2006, 51 shows in
2007, and is currently seeking small venue and festival solo
performances for his original music (samples available by clicking
above links).

Eric also appears regularly with Charles Owens. Charles brings a fuller
sound to the music and strong vocal harmonies to the performance.
Eric and Charles are members of the Central Carolinas Songwriters
Assoc.
